Meet Josie

Hello, I am Josie and I am an original Brightonian, which is often rare to find! My introduction to Contemporary Dance was in Brighton and Hove Youth Dance Company many moons ago before going on to complete my degree in Contemporary Dance studies.

I am a community dance artist and dance educator, having spent many years facilitating for some brilliant community organisations, professional companies, schools, colleges and in many varied settings and spaces. Before returning to the south coast, I taught for several years at The BRIT School for Performing Arts and then as a Animateur for Rambert Dance Company.

I am passionate about the delivery of high quality dance and movement classes for all and believe in the importance of allowing space for individuality and creativity. When I am not teaching dance, I can be found leading restorative yoga classes in and around my local community, teaching the practice inclusively and joyfully with respect and acceptance of our wonderful bodies and busy minds.

I hold a PGCE in secondary dance education, have trained in the recently developed Rambert Grades contemporary dance syllabus, have gained training under Yoga for Teens and recently returned to University to study the practice of Dance Movement Psychotherapy. I currently teach for South East Dance and am an associate artist for Parable Dance Company and have taken part in numerous training courses with Candoco, One Dance UK and People Dancing

Young people are deserving of safe spaces to explore, express and push boundaries through their chosen art form and I feel it is crucial to their development. I find this age group, their growth and their potential really exciting as a dance and yoga teacher and I love the unexpected in leading creatively in community spaces and participatory work.
